with John Dominic Crossan
The other day I was at a meetup of local clergy, many of whom were preparing for thier congregation's journey to Christmas. One of the ministers said, "Advent and Christmas would be so much easier if congregants had some idea about the Biblical stories beyond the sentimentality." A friend then mentioned the upcoming Homebrewed class with John Dominic Crossan and how she had a group joining the class in her congregation. At this point, your friendly neighborhood theology podcaster said, "so, what do you wish your congregation knew about the Biblical Christmas stories?" We made a list of six different statements of 'things they learned in seminary', and I talked Dom into responding to them in this fresh episode.
I am beyond thrilled to about Homebrewed Christianity's upcoming class this Advent - the Christmas Stories: Celebrating, Questioning, & Explaining the Biblical Narratives and hope this conversation lures you to join the fun.

Like all online Homebrewed Christianity classes, this one is donation based (including 0), and something you can use in your local book group or church class.
In addition to exploring his book The First Christmas: What the Gospels Really Teach About Jesus's Birth, Dom is preparing four visual lectures that will take us on a deep dive into the Biblical Christmas stories. Each time we talk about the class, I get more excited! I hope you head over here to check out the class and join up.

Book Description: "In The First Christmas Marcus J. Borg and John Dominic Crossan—top Jesus scholars and authors of The Last Week—help us see the real Christmas story buried in the familiar Bible accounts. Basing their interpretations on the two nativity narratives in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, Borg and Crossan focus on the literal story—the inner truth rather than the historical facts—to offer a clear and uplifting message of hope and peace. With The First Christmas readers get a fresh, deep, and new understanding of the nativity story, enabling us to better appreciate the powerful message of the Gospels."

Each week during the class, we will have a visual lecture from Crossan guiding us through the Biblical Christmas stories.
